Reading gaps do not all look the same.

Starbound begins with an educational reading-skills assessment to understand the reader’s current capabilities, strengths and gaps. We then recommend a tailored intervention and the most suitable individual or matched small-group format. The parent or reader makes the final choice.

We can help with

Sound recognition through to reading confidence.

Blending; decoding unfamiliar words; fluency; comprehension; and reading confidence. We welcome children, teenagers and adults, including neurodivergent readers, and shape support around each reader’s strengths and needs. Boost is mapped against CAPS, and we also support reading comprehension as set out in the curriculum for the specific grade.

How it works

  1. An individual assessment

Every reader begins with an assessment so that we can understand their current abilities and identify the gaps holding them back.

  2. A tailored recommendation

We recommend the most appropriate way forward, and the individual or matched small-group format that suits the reader’s needs, pace and goals.

  3. Progress reviews

Progress is generally reviewed quarterly, and sooner when individual needs require adjustment. Feedback may be verbal or written, depending on the learner and the recommendation.

Ways to attend and fees

The fees shown here are based on one session per week, 45–60 minutes per session, and are for illustrative purposes only.

Boost fees
Registration R350 once off Non-refundable. Includes a Starbound T-shirt.
Small group R450 per month Per child. Siblings from the same household attending for a full month receive a 5% discount: R427.50 per child.
One-to-one R560 per month Per child. One learner with one educator. Or R175 per session.

Every child is encouraged to complete the full programme for the year. If a child can no longer attend, one calendar month’s written notice is required.
